This wonderful recollection of the opening night was published in the Weekend Australian on 15th -16th September 1990. It is sad to say that such "
irreplaceable film was thrown away " of such an important part of history.
Buzz Kennedy was a newspaper columnist and media commentator for fifty years. After service in the AIF during the Second World War, he became a journalist. For many years he wrote the front page 'Town Talk' column for
the Daily Telegraph. He worked in radio (both commercial and ABC), in television from its earliest days in Australia, and he was literary editor, leader writer and columnist for the Australian. He also served as Special Assistant to Prime
Minister Robert Menzies and as Press Secretary to the Queen Mother and to Princess Alexandra. Buzz Kennedy was awarded the Order of Australia medal in 1994. Buzz has since passed on.
